****UPDATE**** (July 17, 2015) I have received now a couple of comments stating that this device has ceased to function as it should. If you've experienced problems, Costco's phenomenal return policy means you can take it back, even without a receipt.
Welcome and thank you for visiting Canadian Costco Consumer, the place to keep up to date with Costco sales, clearance items and new items.
While visiting my local Costco yesterday, I discovered this awesome new wall outlet.
I'm sure all of us have multiple USB cables that we use to charge many of our electronics. And all these chargers take up valuable outlets that we need for many other things. We end up investing in outlet adapters.
Well here's a new solution that's now available at your local Costco.
Charging Essentials USB/AC Wall Outlet pack of 2
Item #: 479226
Price: $26.99
-Tamper resistant
-No adapters needed
-Duplex 2.1A charger ports
-Replaces Standard outlets

Installed product and did a good job of charging our 2 IPhones for about 3 days. Plugged the IPhones in last night and neither one would charge. Unplugged one of the phones and still the other phone wouldn't charge. WHAT GIVES. Packaging would indicate it has enough power for charging Apple products but it appears that the power required has fried the internal circuitry. Taking back to Costco.
ReplyDeleteThis product does not work with Apple or Blackberry because the USB ports only put out 10.5 Watts of power when these devices require no less than 12 watts. Goofy I know, but the US Costco sell the 12 watt. Basically these units are useless for CAN.
DeleteWorked fine with multiple iPad generations for me. Until it stopped working completely.
DeleteI do not know this product myself but most newer items require a higher current charge of 2A or more. I seen one article say 3A for newest apple. This device is 2.1A shared to the 2 ports. This will only charge one high power device or 2 light. I read about resets on some of these products. Look for a reset hole in such a case. Research before buying any such product as its use may damage your device and invalidate warranty of said device. In this case it would appear you were lucky as a person who took apart device found issues with construction.

DeleteSame thing happened to me. It worked for 2 days then nothing. Green light still on but nothing charges.
ReplyDeleteSame thing. 3 days and then nothing
ReplyDeleteSame thing happened with me. I just had to reset the charging unit by switching the breaker on /off.

ReplyDeletesame issue. What a pain in the ass
ReplyDeleteSame here. Two outlets, both stop working and breaker has to be reset . Deciding whether to just keep doing this or go to the trouble of uninstalling and returning. Too bad, seemed like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteOne of my two crapped out within a day or two. Resetting the breaker did nothing. These are not up to Costco's standards
ReplyDeleteJust noticed something. The product packaging states "not intended for 20A kitchen or bathroom outlets." In my case one of two installed in kitchen works. The second doesn't, i.e. the wiring on the one which works might well be different from the other one which doesn't work. Has anyone else noticed this?
ReplyDeleteI believe they are speaking of GFCI receipts in this case. They in no way provide any safety protection.

DeleteThis product is garbage and failed after charging my Samsung phone only twice. I am VERY disappointed as I expect Costco to cary quality products. It's time consuming to change out these plugs so I am frustrated with Costco! Costco - you need to take better care of your customers and screen your products better! you are still selling this junk
ReplyDeleteThe charging ability of this wall charger from Bizarkdeal is first-rate.
ReplyDeleteAs we all acquire more and more devices that charge via USB cables, wall chargers such as this iDsonix one become truly valuable. This particular wall charger has the advantage of having not just one but two 2 amp ports for power-hungry devices such as the iPad. The other two ports, both 1A, are great to charge less demanding devices such as phones and e-readers while the higher amperage ports are in use. All ports are 5V.
Never worked well from the time we installed it. Brought it back to Costco yesterday no questions asked. The guy at returns said he cannot count how many times he has seen this product returned. He even said that he saw them returned like they were burnt. Costco should pull from shelves with all the complaints.
ReplyDeleteMine worked 3 months with only 1 USB being used at a time. Both outputs are dead. Piece or crap.

ReplyDeleteAfter using the two plug outlets the USB stopped working. The green light was still on but USB failed, I read other comments on here anr decided to rest my breaker, It worked and the entire unit works. will see it happens again and see if costco has a updated version.I got mine at christmas so 2 months.
ReplyDeleteI've finally installed these outlets after buying it last year. It seems that I've ran into the same issue you all are experiencing. The USB's worked for 3 days then all of a sudden the green light just turned off. Then a day later the other green light on the second outlet turned off. Bringing them back tomorrow... Hopefully they'll take them without the package. :O
ReplyDeleteDitto. Put one daughters room and another in living room. Hers quit after about a week. Living room one quit after a couple months. Now I have to switch out. More a hassle than anything else.

ReplyDeletePiece of shit , after install it the whole afternoon today , tonight one of outlet's Usbs died, the other outlet's usb makes my iPhone touchscreen useless, what a junk , can't believe they are from COSTCO,wtf.
ReplyDeleteI installed one of these about a week ago. Charged two iPhone 4Ss on it each night since, except last night they didn't charge. It's dead. Taking back to CostCo. :(
ReplyDeleteI bought 6 of them and Electrician installed them (About 80 dollar to install). All of the USBs quit working. The worst product I have ever seen. I do not have original packaging and I cant even return them.
ReplyDeleteYou can return them. Even without the package.
DeleteI'm returning mine tomorrow. Worked for about a month then died. Plug part still works fine but that's not why I bought them.

ReplyDeleteI just picked this item up, got home and installed. I plugged my iPhone and samsung phone in and after only 5-10 seconds I heard a pop and could smell the smoke. Product is compete trash, returning to Costco in the morning. The receptical was on a 15 amp breaker
ReplyDeleteI installed one outlet in mid Sept. of which the USB ports only worked about 4 weeks. I replaced it with the second unit in the pack and it did the same. The green surge protector light remained on with both items. I removed the second one before I read these reviews about switching the breaker off to reset it. Maybe that would have worked.
ReplyDeleteI am returning them to Costco and will try the newer 3.1 Amp model they now have on the shelf. Hopefully they have the bugs worked out of them.
